Design

The implicit, multimodal principles of organization informing an entity's existence, as well, as the process of actively developing this entity's organization

Design-as-Argument

The implicit argument communicated by a work of (multimedia) scholarship's design

Digital Autoethnography

A research methodology involving digitally generated recordings of the researcher as data source

Icon-Coding

A method of analysis using visual icons to code a data source

Inscape

The way the pieces of a webtext come together in a particular, unique way in order to generate or otherwise communicate an implicit design-as-argument

Invention

An ongoing process of generating ideas through negotiation with rhetorical situations and communicative media (including their affordances and constraints)

Invention Narrative

A sequential account of the invention process as focalized through the perspective and experience of a human composer

Inventive Juxtaposition

The process of bringing together various pieces and components in order to exploratively generate new ideas, as well as the resulting assemblage of components

Material Influence

An impact on the invention process exerted by an agency outside of or apart from the human composer's control

Metaphor

For the purposes of this project, a concrete object whose organizing logics inform the design, argument, and structure of a webtext or other work of multimodal scholarship

Multimedia Scholarship

A project seeking to communicate generalized knowledge derived from systematic research and informing theoretical frameworks, and that deliberately takes advantage of its media environment to communicate an argument implicitly via multi-channel design resources and principles (as well as explicitly via alphabetic discussion)

People

For the purposes of this project, human agents who impact the webtext invention and design process (apart from the composer, who is likewise typically a human agent but whose presence and impact on the webtext invention process are assumed by default)

Piece

For the purposes of this project, a component of a webtext with a distinct rhetorical purpose that serves to facilitate the overall user experience, such as navigation, backgrounds, and focal media elements

Tool

For the purposes of this project, a digital editing resource (software, platform, interface, etc.) used to act on and integrate the pieces of a webtext during the invention process (and that also exerts its own agency which may complement or challenge that of the human composer)

Webtext

A work of scholarship, such as an article, book, or book review, designed specifically to take advantages of the affordances of a web environment
